{"id":3579,"date":"2026-10-22T13:56:06","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T13:56:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/binayaknews.in\/?p=3579"},"modified":"2026-10-22T13:56:06","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T13:56:06","slug":"cuttack-braces-for-durga-idol-immersion-over-150-idols-to-converge-at-devigada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/binayaknews.in\/?p=3579","title":{"rendered":"Cuttack Braces for Durga Idol Immersion; Over 150 Idols to Converge at Devigada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>CUTTACK<\/strong>: Elaborate arrangements have been made in Cuttack for the Durga idol immersion ceremony, with more than 150 puja pandals expected to bring their idols to Devigada on the banks of the Kathajodi river.<\/p>\n<p>The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has constructed three temporary ponds, each eight feet deep, at Devigada to facilitate immersion while minimising river pollution. A separate pond has also been dug at Gopalpur for idols from the city\u2019s outskirts. Hydra machines will be used to lift and immerse the idols, while barricades, lighting arrangements and a well for water supply have been provided at the immersion site.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Subash Singh and CMC Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota inspected the preparations on Wednesday. The processions are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. after the traditional \u2018Melani\u2019 ritual. Puja committees will follow designated routes to Devigada, while those from the outskirts will proceed to Gopalpur. Accompanied by folk dancers and musicians, the processions are expected to continue late into the night.<\/p>\n<p>To protect the Kathajodi from pollution, the civic body has lined the temporary immersion ponds with polythene. Excavators, tractors and sanitation teams have been deployed to clear the ponds after the immersion. Access to the river embankment has been restricted, with idols permitted to enter the site only through the designated entrance at Devigada. Light towers have also been installed to facilitate operations after dark.<\/p>\n<p>Commissionerate Police have put extensive security arrangements in place for the event. More than 1,300 CCTV cameras will monitor the traditional procession route from College Square to Devigada at Purighat, passing through Ranihat, Manglabag, Nuapatna, Cantonment Road, Mastan Road, Mani Sahu Chhak, Buxi Bazaar, Barapathar, Tinkonia Bagicha, Dargha Bazaar, Jail Road and Choudhury Bazaar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CUTTACK: Elaborate arrangements have been made in Cuttack for the Durga idol immersion ceremony, with more than 150 puja pandals expected to bring their idols to Devigada on the banks of the Kathajodi river.
