To mark the occasion, the State Government will organise a State-Level Parade followed by a cultural programme at the 7th Battalion Ground, Bhubaneswar, in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha. The celebration will reaffirm the country’s commitment to unity, sovereignty, integrity and national security while paying tribute to Patel’s extraordinary contribution to India’s political integration. Following Independence, Patel played a decisive role in bringing more than 560 princely states into the Indian Union through his exceptional political vision, diplomatic skills, determination and administrative leadership. His contribution laid the foundation for the territorial and political unity of the country and continues to inspire generations to rise above regional, linguistic, religious and social differences. His legacy carries a timeless message that India’s diversity must remain its strength and national unity its greatest asset. The ideals of Sardar Patel also find expression in the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, which seeks to strengthen emotional bonds among people belonging to different regions, languages and cultural traditions. The State-Level Parade in Bhubaneswar will be a significant highlight of the celebrations, symbolising discipline, courage, coordination and collective commitment towards safeguarding the nation. The participation of police personnel and other uniformed formations will demonstrate the institutional solidarity and professionalism essential for maintaining peace, public order and internal security. Beyond its ceremonial significance, the parade will reflect the dedication of those entrusted with protecting the country and serving its people. For Odisha Police, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is particularly meaningful as it reinforces the force’s responsibility not only to prevent crime and maintain law and order but also to protect constitutional values, promote communal harmony and ensure the safety and security of every citizen. The cultural programme following the parade will further highlight India’s extraordinary heritage and the spirit of unity in diversity, demonstrating how different traditions, art forms and languages contribute to one shared national identity.

The 2026 observance will also form part of a wider year-long programme commemorating the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Patel during 2026–27. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs communication dated October 27, 2026, States and Union Territories have been encouraged to organise activities at various levels, from police stations to State headquarters, to take the message of national integration to the people. The proposed calendar includes mobile exhibitions across districts and conferences focusing on farmers and youth empowerment in November 2026; inter-State folk dance and music festivals and entrepreneurship fairs from December 2026 to March 2027; Unity Torch Relays, essay competitions and speech competition finals in April 2027; and a Bharat Unity Marathon in the capitals of all 28 States in May 2027. A mass tree plantation drive under the theme ‘Ekta Forests’ is proposed for June, followed by joint cultural programmes involving police and civilians in July to highlight Patel’s vision of national security and unity. August 2027 will feature Monument Illumination Week, during which prominent monuments will be illuminated in the Tricolour, accompanied by portrait projection mapping. These initiatives are intended to transform National Unity Day from a one-day observance into a sustained public movement encouraging greater participation, awareness and national consciousness. Police stations and other public institutions are also expected to play an important role in taking the message to communities through activities and the live relay of the Ekta Parade. In this context, Odisha Police has a vital responsibility in translating Patel’s ideals into meaningful action. National unity and internal security are closely interconnected, as peace, social harmony and public confidence form the foundation of a strong nation. Through professional and impartial policing, community engagement, intelligence-led operations, crime prevention and coordination with other enforcement agencies, Odisha Police continues to contribute towards a secure and harmonious society. Emerging challenges such as cybercrime, organised criminal networks, misinformation and social tensions demand technological preparedness, institutional coordination and a proactive approach to policing. The spirit of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas calls upon every police officer and personnel to uphold integrity, professionalism, constitutional principles and respect for the rights of citizens while discharging their duties. It also reminds the force that protecting national unity requires constant vigilance against divisive tendencies and a firm commitment to ensuring that every citizen feels safe, respected and secure.

The true significance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, however, extends far beyond government programmes and ceremonial celebrations. National integration is a collective responsibility shared by every citizen, irrespective of region, language, religion, caste or social background. Students, teachers, farmers, workers, professionals, entrepreneurs, civil society organisations and public institutions all have an important role in building a society founded on fraternity, mutual respect and shared national aspirations. Young people, in particular, must appreciate India’s cultural richness, respect different perspectives and actively contribute to nation-building. The National Unity Day pledge provides an opportunity for citizens to reaffirm their commitment to preserving the unity, integrity and security of the country and to spread the message of national integration in their communities. As India advances towards greater economic progress and a stronger global presence, its strength will continue to rest on social harmony, institutional integrity, collective determination and the ability to remain united amid diversity. For Odisha, the State-Level Parade and cultural programme at the 7th Battalion Ground, Bhubaneswar, will be more than an annual ceremonial event; it will serve as an occasion to renew the commitment to the values that bind the nation together. The 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel should inspire every citizen and public servant to carry forward his vision through everyday actions, professional responsibilities and a shared spirit of service to the nation. His life reminds us that the unity of India was achieved through extraordinary determination and that preserving it requires equally strong commitment from every generation. The message of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is therefore both timeless and relevant: our diversity is our identity, our unity is our strength, and our collective responsibility is to protect the integrity and security of our motherland. Let us reaffirm our resolve to build an India that is united, peaceful, inclusive, secure and prosperous, where every citizen contributes to the larger national interest.
