The raid was conducted around 11 am following a tip-off about the unauthorised storage of firecrackers on the upper floor of a house. Town Police Station Inspector Ullas Chandra Rout said a team led by Sub-Inspector Gobinda Hansda, under his supervision, searched the premises and recovered the firecrackers in different varieties. The person responsible for storing the consignment reportedly failed to produce a valid licence or official authorisation, following which the entire stock was seized and brought to Jayapur Town Police Station. Inspector Rout said storing such a large quantity of explosive materials in a densely populated residential area posed a serious threat to public safety. Under the supervision of SDPO Archita Mittal, police have intensified surveillance and enforcement measures against the illegal storage and sale of firecrackers during the festive season.
