Odisha Government Sets Three-Day Deadline for Flood Compensation Payments

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has directed district administrations to disburse all pending compensation to flood-affected people within three days. The directive was issued at a review meeting chaired by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari at Rajiv Bhawan. Nearly 28 districts were affected by floods, with Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur reporting the most extensive damage. The compensation forms part of the ₹1,000-crore relief package announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The Special Relief Commissioner has released ₹288.72 crore towards crop and land damage, house repairs, loss of household belongings, damaged fishing equipment and other relief measures.

The government has also allocated funds to six departments for the urgent restoration of damaged infrastructure. Mr. Pujari said the administration would focus on long-term measures to reduce the impact of heavy rainfall and address recurring urban waterlogging. He emphasised the need for improved urban planning and effective remedial measures to prevent severe waterlogging during periods of intense rainfall. The three-day deadline is intended to expedite relief delivery and ensure that eligible flood-affected families receive compensation without further delay.
