Odisha to Seek Supreme Court Intervention Again in Kotia Border Dispute

KORAPUT: The Odisha government will approach the Supreme Court again over the long-standing territorial dispute with Andhra Pradesh over Kotia, alleging violations of the apex court’s earlier status quo order, Fabi Rasheed, Koraput Sub-Collector and nodal officer for Kotia, said on Wednesday.
Rasheed said the State government would pursue contempt of court proceedings over activities by Andhra Pradesh that allegedly violate the status quo order. She asserted that the administration would take all necessary steps to protect Odisha’s territorial integrity and safeguard its interests in the disputed region.
She is scheduled to visit Kotia on Wednesday and Thursday to inform residents about the State government’s development programmes and ongoing projects. During the visit, she will also hear public grievances and assess the problems faced by people living in the border region.
The administration is committed to protecting Odisha’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, Rasheed said, adding that the legal battle would be intensified in response to alleged violations of the court’s order.
The dispute has resurfaced following Andhra Pradesh’s announcement of panchayat elections in the contested Kotia region, scheduled to begin on November 26, 2026. The proposed polls have renewed concerns over the territorial issue, which has remained a point of contention between the two neighbouring States.
