Do Not Panic Over Cyclone Arnab, Avoid Rumours, Cooperate With Authorities: IGP Satyajit Nayak

Cuttack ; Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Dr Satyajit Nayak has appealed to the public not to panic over the impending Cyclone Arnab and to refrain from believing or circulating unverified information on social media. He urged people to remain calm, stay alert and cooperate with the government, police and local administration in view of the possibility of heavy rain, strong winds and waterlogging. Emphasising the importance of responsible communication during a potential natural disaster, Dr Nayak said rumours and misleading messages could create unnecessary panic and hamper relief and emergency response efforts. He advised people to rely only on official and authorised sources for weather updates and cyclone-related advisories, and not to forward messages without verifying their authenticity. The IGP also urged residents, particularly those in vulnerable and coastal areas, to follow the instructions issued by the authorities, keep essential supplies ready and stay away from unsafe locations. People should remain vigilant and take precautionary measures as advised by the administration, rather than being influenced by speculative reports circulating online. Stressing the importance of public cooperation in disaster management, Dr Nayak said the police administration was alert to the evolving situation and that collective responsibility, awareness and adherence to official advisories were essential to safeguarding lives and property. He appealed to citizens to maintain calm, avoid spreading rumours and extend their full cooperation to the government and police during the period of heightened vigilance.
