DJ No, Life Yes: Let Celebrations Echo with Humanity, Not Noise

By Jayaprakash Nayak

Celebrations are meant to bring happiness, strengthen relationships and create beautiful memories. But when the deafening sound of DJs takes over public spaces, celebrations can lose their true meaning. Music should unite people, not create fear, discomfort or danger. It is time to rethink the culture of excessive DJ sound and embrace a simple message: DJ No, Life Yes.

In recent years, loud DJ music has become an inseparable part of weddings, festivals, religious processions and public celebrations. While music and dance are expressions of joy, excessive sound can turn entertainment into a serious public concern. High-volume speakers, uncontrolled sound systems and reckless celebrations can disturb students, senior citizens, patients, infants and people living in residential areas. For those suffering from heart-related ailments or other health conditions, extreme noise can be particularly distressing.

The issue goes beyond inconvenience. Uncontrolled DJ celebrations can also create traffic congestion, panic and law-and-order challenges. When sound levels rise beyond permissible limits, public safety and the peaceful atmosphere of communities are put at risk. A moment of excitement should never become a lifetime of regret.

The responsibility does not rest with the administration and police alone. Organisers, DJ operators, vehicle owners, community leaders and ordinary citizens must collectively recognise that freedom of celebration comes with responsibility. Festivals and religious occasions should reflect devotion, discipline, compassion and respect for others.

Young people, in particular, have an important role to play. True modernity is not measured by the volume of speakers but by the maturity of our choices. Real enthusiasm is demonstrated through responsible behaviour, respect for elders, concern for vulnerable people and awareness of public safety.

The administration must ensure strict compliance with prescribed noise limits, permitted timings and applicable regulations. Organisers should obtain necessary permissions and follow safety guidelines. DJ operators must avoid excessive amplification, while citizens should cooperate with authorities and discourage unsafe practices.

Let our celebrations be remembered for their cultural richness, community participation and spirit of togetherness, rather than for noise pollution, road accidents or avoidable conflicts. Traditional musical instruments, devotional songs, cultural performances and community activities can make festivals more meaningful and inclusive.

Life is precious, and no celebration is greater than the safety of a human being. A few hours of uncontrolled excitement must never put someone’s health or life at risk.

Let us raise our voices for humanity, not noise. Let happiness reach every home without disturbing anyone’s peace. Let our festivals spread love, harmony and responsibility.

The message is simple and powerful: DJ No, Life Yes. Celebrate with joy, respect with responsibility and protect every precious life.
